Around Thanksgiving, a luxury scarf from the likes of Scabal, Holland & Sherry and Ermemegildo Zegna offers sophistication and practicality for Thanksgiving.
Made from high-quality materials such as , super fine cashmere, and merino wool, they can perfectly finish a more formal look, or elevate a casual outfit to the next level of sophistication.
With regards to color and pattern, a scarf offers you the opportunity to be a little more adventurous than you might be with other items of your clothing.
Think about going for bold fall tones such as orange, mustard, forest green, burgundy or tan. Or how about a striking check, or paisley pattern?

What to wear on your upper body
Blazers
For Thanksgiving, a single-breasted blazer in an earthy tone such as brown, green, burgundy, or tan is a great choice. It can be easily paired with a dress shirt, sweater, or turtleneck.
Plaids, checks and vintage British tweeds from world-leading fabric houses like Dormeuil are also superb at bringing a seasonal and sophisticated feel to an outfit.
Or if you’d like to go for a more relaxed look, a corduroy blazer is an excellent option. This can be made from a premium cotton-corduroy fabric that’s blended with soft cashmere.
Knitwear
If you want your Thanksgiving outfit to deliver style, comfort, and warmth, then bespoke knitwear made from luxury fabrics such as cashmere and merino wool is a great choice for you.
At HKT, we can create pretty much any style you want. From traditional crew necks and V-necks, to turtlenecks and quarter-zip jumpers, to chunky cable knits and fisherman sweaters.
As for color, there are a lot of tones that work well at this time of year, including cream and beige, browns and tans, rust orange, and darker neutrals such as navy.
But if you’re unsure what to go for, or what will work with your overall outfit, please speak to one of our style consultants. They’ll be more than happy to offer you some advice.
Shirts
When it comes to a shirt for Thanksgiving, our stylists have a few favorites which they think work particularly well at this time of year.
First, there is the brushed cotton shirt, which offers softness, warmth, and breathability. AT HKT, we often create exquisite custom shirts made from brushed cotton shirting fabrics that have been produced by world-leading fabric houses such as Dormeuil, Thomas Mason, and Alumo.
Another great choice is a lighter shirt made from a cotton-cashmere blend. As well as feeling luxuriously smooth against the skin, it’s a good insulator, looks great in formal and causal situations, and wrinkles less compared to pure cotton.
Finally, we think an Oxford shirt delivers a perfect look for this time of year. Actually originating from Scotland, this type of shirt traditionally features a button-down collar and chest pocket, and is made from a thicker Oxford shirting fabric that has a hearty feel and is especially durable.
As for colors and patterns, it all depends on what your combining your shirt with. But if the rest of your outfit is quite neutral, you can’t go wrong with a plaid shirt for Thanksgiving, and especially one that features fall colors such as burgundy, red, orange, or forest green.
What to wear on your lower body
Custom jeans
For a smart, relaxed vibe, dark denim jeans are a superb choice for the Thanksgiving period. In particular, we really like burgundy, brick, and chocolate tones for the fall, instead of a more traditional navy or black.
At HKT, you can have a pair of jeans made in these colors and customize them so they create the perfect look for you.
For example, you can choose the cut and rise of your jeans, the type of pockets you have and where they’re placed, a zip or button fly, the color of your stitching, and many other important details.
Wool trousers
If you’re attending a dressier Thanksgiving event, such as a dinner, then wool trousers can offer you the formality you want, as well as warmth and comfort.
Typically, we recommend a medium (10–12 oz per yard) to heavyweight fabric (13–16oz) for pants for the fall and winter months.
As for the actual type of fabric, flannel, tweed, or a worsted wool cloth from Zegna, Loro Piana and other leading fabric houses are all great choices.
Corduroy pants
If you’re looking for a soft, durable, and warm fabric for Thanksgiving and through the fall and winter months, corduroy offers all this and much more.
Corduroy fabrics from the likes of Holland & Sherry and Scabal are also available in a huge range of colors, including deep fall tones like rust, mustard, navy, and dark brown.
If this sounds like a good choice for you, think about pairing your corduroy pants with a crisp white shirt and complementary blazer for a sophisticated yet relaxed look.

What to wear on your feet
For Thanksgiving, you can balance comfort and style by leaning into casual or semi-formal footwear that suits the warm, festive atmosphere. Our personal favorites for this time of year are:
Chukka boots
Chukka boots, which originate from British military boots, are ankle-high boots that typically have a minimalist design.
Because of their refined, timeless look, they effortlessly transition from casual to more dressy events, making them a great choice for Thanksgiving.
Chelsea boots
Chelsea boots are ankle-high boots that typically feature elasticated side panels, no laces or zips, a loop at the back of the ankle, and a smooth, rounded upper.
Our stylists especially like them because they complement a wide range of looks and are incredibly comfortable to wear.
For Thanksgiving and the Fall months, we particularly like suede Chelsea boots, because they offer a warmer, more textural look, and look super sharp with a pair of tailored jeans.
Loafers
Loafers offer an elegant, laid-back look that’s perfect for a more dressed up family event or more formal Thanksgiving occasion.
We particularly like pairing suede or leather loafers with wool pants, a buttoned-down shirt, and a blazer in a seasonal color such as rust, burgundy or forest green.
Whatever footwear you would like for Thanksgiving, don’t forget that HKT offers a custom shoe service, which means you can design your ideal boots or shoes.
Simply choose the style, materials and details you want. We’ll then create perfectly fitting footwear that will take your look to a whole new level.
